Why should one never drink with an empty stomach?

Research shows that if one has food before gulping down a few drinks then the alcohol gets stored in the stomach from where it gets absorbed slowly into the blood stream. Due to this the liver gets more time to break down the alcohol. If one has drinks without eating anything then the alcohol is directly absorbed without being broken down into the blood stream and this can damage the liver.
